The European Milk Bank Association (EMBA) and its partners have recently launched their EU-funded “IMAGINE-HMB Project” in Milan (10th September 2024). The IMAGINE-HMB (Implementation of human Milk hArmonized Guidelines for Infant Nutrition in Europe) project aims to constitute an EU Forum of Experts specialised in human milk/milk banking to prepare evidence-based guidelines for both milk banking practices and oversight requirements for establishments/entities across Europe.

IMAGINE-HMB is being coordinated by EMBA, in collaboration with the Consortium partners, the Polish Human Milk Bank Foundation (HMBF), the German Human Milk Bank Initiative (FMBI), the Spanish Association of Human Milk Banks (AEBLH), and the Irish Neonatal Health Alliance (INHA).

During the Kick-off Meeting in Milan various aspects of the project were discussed and the work packages have been assigned to the Consortium. The Consortium will guide the experts through the process for drafting evidence-based guidelines to ensure compliance with the new EU SoHO regulations. An implementation and training program will help human milk establishments to reach full compliance with the guidelines produced.
